Common Valve Maintenance Methods
2025-06-12 08:04:30

1. For valves that are not used for a long time, regular cleaning is essential to remove dirt and dust from the exposed surfaces. Meanwhile, seal them to ensure the interior of the valve is clean and dry. Store the valves neatly in a ventilated and dry indoor place. Do not stack or store them in the open air. Butterfly valves are the easiest to store, with the disc kept closed. For gate valves, globe valves, and Check Valves, both ends of the passage should be blocked, and the valve plate should be closed during storage. Ball valves should be stored with both ends blocked and the ball opened.

2. Before installing the valve, recheck the valve's pressure rating and diameter, and remove the dirt on the valve that accumulated during transportation.

3. When installing the valve, ensure correct installation according to the valve's connection type. Commonly used valves can generally be installed at any position on the pipeline, but it is necessary to consider whether the operation is convenient for operators after installation and whether it facilitates future valve maintenance.

4. When gate valves and ball valves are in operation, they should only be fully open or fully closed. Using them to regulate flow is not allowed, as this will cause severe erosion and wear to the sealing surfaces and increase the wear of the valve's opening and closing parts.

5. When opening or closing handle valves and handwheel valves, do not use levers, wrenches, or other tools to avoid damaging the valves.

6. Tighten the bolts on the valve packing gland evenly. Do not let the gland rub or tilt, as this will damage or hinder the movement of the valve stem and cause valve leakage.

7. During the use of the valve, regular maintenance should be carried out to keep the valve clean. The transmission parts should be lubricated regularly. Once a valve failure is found, the operation must be stopped immediately to identify the cause of the failure and eliminate it.
